'Metro-friendly' Facebook update released for Windows Phone

A "Metro-friendly" redesign of the Facebook app for Microsoft's Windows Phone platform has been released this week.

The new version features a panorama look and adds more functionality, according to a post on Windows Phone enthusiast site WPCentral.com.

"The new version brings a complete redesign of the UI as can be seen above in some new screenshots. The panorama look makes the app more Metro friendly and more importantly, it adds much more functionality like the ability to see and add 'likes' to posts," it said.

It also noted a refined toolbar at the bottom with quick access to Check in, Add (post) or quickly add/take a new photo.

Users will also have access to pages, groups, feed filters, privacy information and banner images.

"Speed of the app seems on par with before and we're hoping for more reliable notifications (always a tricky issue that is more Facebook than Windows Phone)," it said.

WPCentral.com said the new app appears to be a "solid and respectable update."

A separate article on tech site The Next Web noted there are now some 1.4 million active users of the Facebook app for Windows Phone.

"(This) means that this update should have a real quality of life impact for a decent chunk of the Windows Phone community. Let’s hope that in the future, Windows Phone won’t lag quite as far behind the apps that rival platforms enjoy," it said. — TJD, GMA News
