Baguio tops list of PHL Facebook check-ins
Coinciding with the season, Facebook users are flocking to Baguio, according to check-in data from social media analytics company Socialbakers. Baguio, the refuge for Filipinos seeking respite from sweltering Summer temperatures, has emerged as a favorite destination of Facebook users in the country, according to Socialbakers.
Three destinations in the chilly northern Luzon city made it to Socialbakers' top five destinations in the Philippines in terms of Facebook check-ins as of March 21.
SM City Baguio, a branch of a popular chain of shopping centers in the country, topped the analytics group's list with 12,708 check-ins.
Burnham Park, a Baguio attraction known for offering boating, horseback rides, bicycle rentals and strawberry taho (a warm drink made of silken tofu, tapioca pearls and dark caramel syrup), placed fourth with 1,487 check-ins.
Cafe by the Ruins, which is famous for its cozy ambiance, good coffee, soul-nourishing hot chocolate and home-style Filipino cuisine, was fifth with 1,386 check-ins.
Other top destinations for Filipino Facebook users were Robinsons Mall Ilocos Norte (no. 2 with 1,931 check-ins) and the Our Lady of Manaoag shrine in Pangasinan (no. 3 with 1,763 check-ins).
The Philippines is the eighth most Facebook-crazy nation in the world, according to the analytics group.
Socialbakers' report, compiled over the past six months, shows that there are now almost 28m Facebook users in the Philippines, or 27,720,300 people.
The Philippines placed third in Asia in terms of the largest number of Facebook users added over the last six months, just behind India and Indonesia. Globally, Filipinos were the eighth top users of the social networking site, with almost a million users added since September.
Some 27.75% of the Philippine population are Facebook users, but 93.33% of Internet-using Filipinos are hooked on the social networking site.
In terms of demographics, the largest percentage of Filipino users belong to the 18-24 age group (39%). Those in the 25-34 age group follow, making up 24% of all users. Pinays (52%) slightly outnumbered Pinoys (48%), mirroring the same trend in Britain. — TJD, GMA News
