Flipboard expands to Android, YouTube, Google+

Flipboard, the popular social magazine app, is now going beyond Apple's iOS as it released a new version for Google's Android platform.

 

In a blog post, the Flipboard Team said Flipboard is now available in the Google Play Store as a free download for Android fans worldwide.

 

"You’ll also find it in the Amazon App Store for the Kindle and the Barnes & Noble Nook App Store. In the United States, Flipboard will come pre-installed on the new Samsung Galaxy S III when purchased from leading carriers, including AT&T," it said.

 

Also, it said Flipboard’s utility is being expanded by adding two new major services: Google's social network Google+ and video-sharing site YouTube.

 

This means users can connect their Google+ accounts to Flipboard and see all the activity in their Circles in a beautiful magazine format.

 

"You can '+1' (Google’s version of “like”) any post from within Flipboard, or tap the status update to share, comment and reply," it said.

 

On YouTube, the team said video browsing becomes more like reading a magazine.

 

"Flip through your subscriptions, uploads and favorites, or enjoy popular feeds like Most Viewed, Trending Videos and Top Favorites," it said.

 

On the other hand, Flipboard is available in five new editions — Germany, Italy, Korea, Netherlands and Spain — with a fully translated interface and reading recommendations curated by local editors.

 

Users can explore content from around the world by tapping on the red ribbon, tapping “This Week” and selecting the Content Guide Edition.

 

A separate article on CNET said Google had opened up its Google+ application programming interface to Flipboard on Tuesday.

 

"(This) presumably means Flipboard users will soon be able to read and publish Google+ posts and comment on those posts directly from Flipboard," it said. — TJD, GMA News
