Pinterest users targeted by spamming app
Users of Pinterest were warned against a new "shady" fake app that may potentially affect the social networking site's members.
GFI Labs said the app, "Pin Photo Zoom," claims to help Pinterest users zoom in on images by downloading certain applications hosted on Freeze.com.
"After testing, the app did not appear to have any effect on how pinners view images. Furthermore, the user’s system was now home to a program designed to inject ads on websites they had visited," it said.
It said its labs learned the domain hosting the app is hosted on an IP address in Israel, which uses a network (AS8551) where other IPs host malicious content.
Also, it said "Pin Photo Zoom" appears to have a second site called pinterestphotozoom.com.
GFI said its antivirus detects Pin Photo Zoom as Adware.PinPhotoZoom (fs). — TJD, GMA News
