Get YouTube subtitles in Filipino or any of over 300 other languages

Users of video sharing site YouTube can now expand their global reach with a new feature that can translate the captions on their videos into more than 300 languages —including Filipino.

 

YouTube product managers Jeff Chin and Brad Ellis said the new feature also embeds the video in the editor so a user can "watch while you translate."

 

"By providing translated captions, you’ll not only make your video globally accessible but also improve discoverability in other languages. Now you can increase your audience by reaching more people around the world," they said in a post on a blog for YouTube partners.

 

They said a user will first need a caption track for the video, select “Request translation” in the YouTube Video Manager, and choose the languages they want to translate into.

 

YouTube will create caption translation documents that one can now invite anyone to help translate, or a user can translate himself or herself.

 

"For several languages we’ll provide first draft of the translation using Google’s machine translation technology. We’ll also provide preview of what the translated caption looks like on the video so you can make sure the translated captions fit," the two said.

 

Once satisfied with the translation, a user can then click “Publish to YouTube,” and "we’ll publish the translated caption back to your YouTube video."

 

However, if the video whose caption is being edited does not belong to the one creating or editing the caption, YouTube will notify the owner via email that there’s a pending translation waiting to be approved and published.
