Global Facebook bug redirects websites, costs 'millions of page views'

No, it's not your browser, folks. It's a Facebook bug.

For several moments early Friday (Manila time), Facebook said, a bug redirected people logging in from third-party sites to Facebook.com, but said the issue has been resolved.

"For a short period of time, there was a bug that redirected people logging in with Facebook from third party sites to Facebook.com.  The issue was quickly resolved, and Login with Facebook is now working as usual," it said in a statement to tech site The Next Web.

But The Next Web noted Facebook did not apologize for "borking its partners out of millions of pageviews."

It also said Facebook was quiet on what it plans to do to prevent a repeat of the incident.

Earlier, The Next Web said an apparent issue with Facebook caused many sites to redirect to a Facebook error page.

The page simply states “An error occurred. Please try again later.”

"When you hit the blue ‘Okay’ button, you will be taken to a blank screen. If you hit the back button, the page you had wished to be on will be served to you, but only until the problem kicks back in and Facebook takes you hostage again," it said.

It added the issue could have affected millions worldwide, and the disruption "could cost its partners big ad dollars." — TJD, GMA News
