Facebook users can now comment, like straight from Bing

Here's another reason for Facebook users to use Bing for their Internet searches: they can now comment on Facebook posts directly from Microsoft's search engine.

Bing program manager Nektarios Ioannides said this is another case of bringing together Bing and Facebook to "complement your search" with helpful content shared by friends.

"Starting (May 10), you will see comments on a relevant Facebook post within sidebar, as well as the ability add your own, all without having to leave Bing. You can also 'Like' a post directly from Bing. Now you can see what your friends might know about what you’re searching for and engage with them directly without leaving the search page," Ioannides said in a blog post.

Users can go to bing.com and connect their Facebook accounts to Bing. Ioannides assured Facebook users Bing will "honor your account settings and won’t share any information without your approval."

A separate report on tech site Mashable said Bing will start showing a sidebar featuring comments from Facebook that are "relevant" to a user's search.

"(The) new Facebook feature is an extension of the social sidebar Bing introduced last year. That feature brings in relevant social results from networks such as Foursquare, Twitter, Facebook, and Klout that are pertinent to your web search. Previously, you were not able to comment on or Like those posts," Mashable said.

On the other hand, tech site Slashgear said this may be another way Microsoft is trying to distinguish its Bing search engine from Google. — TJD, GMA News
