Some Pinoy netizens irked over Canadian comedian's joke on Pinoy children
Some Filipino netizens have expressed their displeasure over a 39-second YouTube video clip from BBC Two's "Mock of the Week" highlighting a joke on Filipino children made by Canadian comedian Katherine Ryan. Those who reacted on Twitter and Facebook did not agree with the joke shared in the video entitled “BBC TV Mock on Filipino Children: NOT FUNNY AT ALL!!!!” The video posted on Thursday last week raked in 40,285 hits as of Wednesday morning.
Ryan triggered the ire of Filipino netizens during the show segment where stand-up comedians were asked to make jokes that were “Unlikely lines from a cosmetics commercial.”
“We don't test any of our products on animals, we use Filipino children,” Ryan said.
This joke apparently didn't sit well with many Filipino netizens who labeled Ryan as racist, venting out their anger via her Twitter and Facebook accounts.
Most were insults and expletives thrown at the comedian.
C.b. Gañio: “Ryan said, 'We don't test any of our products on animals. We use Filipino children.' RACIST CANADIAN!”
Michelle Lopez: “Your joke about Filipino children is infuriating and so tasleless! Shame on you! You'll be dead before you can test any cosmetic on a Filipino child!”
