'Self-destructing' photos back on Facebook, thanks to Snapchat-like app
This could be the new Snapchat on Facebook, at least for owners of the iPhone: an app that encrypts your photos and makes them self-destruct.
Secret.li is an iPhone app that lets a user share photos on the social network with some Facebook friends, but only for a limited time.
"While the photos can be originated or posted only through the iPhone application, they can be viewed either within the iPhone Secret.li application or using a Facebook viewer," it said.
A separate report on tech site Mashable said the app allows a user to apply a filter that makes the photo unrecognizable to unauthorized viewers on Facebook.
Because of this, people who see the image on the newsfeed of the Facebook user with Secret.li will see only a mass of pixels.
"Once the time period you have chosen expires, the photo deletes itself from the app and Facebook," it added.
Mashable said a user needs to be logged into the app, and the app needs access to a user's Facebook account.
The app is compatible with the iPhone 3GS or later.
However, Mashable also noted there is the possibility someone who has permission to view the photo can take a screen shot and re-post it.
"And if your friends are not active Facebook users they might not ever see it," it added. — TJD, GMA News
