Youtube hints at new logo on Facebook, Twitter apps

YouTube has hinted at its brand new logo with a play icon on its mobile apps, but Google maintained that the classic logo of the video sharing site is here to stay, a tech site reported.

The Verge said the new logo has a red and white design with a "flattened play icon" and thin lettering below it.

"The logo first appeared in the redesign of YouTube's Android and iOS apps last week, and it's since shown up on its Facebook page and Twitter profile — though notably, not on YouTube's own website," it said.

Youtube's new logo, though Google insists the old logo will not be going away.
However, it said YouTube issued a statement saying its current logo "is not going away."

"Our main logo is a core part of YouTube and is not going away. We are increasingly using our play button for apps and icons," YouTube said.

YouTube's classic logo is a "wordmark partially encapsulated in a big red bubble."

On the other hand, The Verge said the new logo could let YouTube be associated with a big red-and-white play icon.

The icon in turn could be seen "as a stronger way to represent itself than solely its name," it added. Besides, it said the icon is in line with recent design styles.

"Aside from echoing the flattened looks present in iOS 7 and Windows Phone, it notably falls in line with other Google services' Android icons, particularly Chrome and Drive, both of which are simple and feature subtle shadowing, as YouTube's new logo does within its arrow," it said. – KDM, GMA News
