YouScoopers report incidents despite 'generally peaceful' elections
Though today's barangay elections were characterized as "generally peaceful", YouScoopers have reported more negative incidents than positive ones. Out of the 16 verified YouScoop reports, six were positive feedback, while 10 were negative. The bad Most of the negative reports were of vote-buying and campaigning a day before or during the elections. YouScooper “Bong” reported an unidentidied person gave a sample ballot with the name of a certain candidate in Barangay Lamao, Limay, Bataan. Around P300 in bills was stapled to the sample ballot as well. Residents had reported the incident to the Comelec. Another report from the same area said that some residents' names were not on the list of voters. “Maraming tao ang nainis at napilitang wag na bomoto. Napakaraming nasayang na boto. Hindi pa ipaliwanag ang dahilan sa pagkawala ng mga pangalan,” the report said. Meanwhile, according to some residents of Barangay Rosario, Pasig City, a woman was reportedly buying votes using flyers with P200 bills attached. She was reported to the barangay hall. YouScooper Jhoelle reported that some candidates were giving out sachets of powdered milk and coffee in San Isidro Village, Virac, Catanduanes on Sunday. Some people even went house-to-house handing out these sachets together with flyers of some of the candidates. A fire that damaged parts of P. Burgos Elementary School in Manila was reported last night at around 10:00 PM. YouScooper Ameer said that according to the people living nearby, the firemen responded quickly, putting out the fire after an hour. Campaign flyers were handed out in a school in Barangay Vergara, Mandaluyong City, while campaign materials were given in E. Rodriguez Jr. High School in Mayon Avenue, Quezon City reportedly at around 11:30 a.m., Monday. Campaign materials were also distributed in San Felipe Elementary School in Naga City, Bicol. In Gen. Vicente Lim Elementary School in Tondo, people were squeezed into line to be able to vote. YouScooper Joseph was able to vote without any hassles in Barangay San Nicolas, Victoria, Tarlac at around 7:30 AM Monday. But some people were still giving out sample ballots outside the precinct despite the prohibition against campaigning. Orderly and peaceful voting was seen in Barangay Bibincahan, Sorsogon, and in Barangay Centro One, Aparri, Cagayan. An organized voters' assistance booth was reported in the F. Baldovino Elementary School in Daet, Camarines Norte.
