Sex scandals, dead stars and beauty queens: Pinoys' top Google searches this year

This year's most searched people, according to Google Zeitgeist, seem to fall into three categories: dead celebrities, beauty queens, and sex scandals.

Paul Walker tops the Google Zeitgeist list of Overall Searches in the Philippines, beating Samsung Galaxy S4, iPhone 5s, and Miss Universe 2013.

 

The Fast and the Furious actor was killed in a car crash on November 30 this year. He is also the second most searched topic overall worldwide.

 

Meanwhile, Nelson Mandela, the most searched topic worldwide does not appear on the Top 10 local list. However, “Nelson Mandela death” is the tenth most searched news topic in the Philippines this year.

 

Samsung Galaxy S4 is the second most searched topic overall, while Miss Universe 2013, and iPhone 5s placed eighth and tenth, respectively.

Sports and politics: most searched news

 

Paul Walker's death is also the top searched news in the Philippines, while Miss Universe 2013 placed second.

 

A mix of political topics (Political topics Pork barrel, Election results 2013, and SONA 2013) and major sports events (FIBA Asia 2013, UAAP Season 76, Wimbledon 2013) dominate the list of most searched news.

 

 

Two deaths, two beauty queens, and this year's sex scandals: most searched people

 

Apart from newly elected leader of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis, and basketball player Kevin Ware, who recently recovered from a severe injury, this year's most searched people seem to fall into three categories.

 

Paul Walker still tops the list, while former Glee actor Cory Monteith places fourth. Both passed away earlier this year.

 

Miss Universe 2013 Ariella Arida and incumbent Miss World Megan Young placed sixth and tenth.

 

The rest are celebrities who have been involved in leaked sex videos this year, including Neri Naig and EB Babe Yosh, who placed second and third.

 

 

Also listed in Google Zeitgeist are the most searched TV shows, movies, Korean personalities, K-pop groups, apps, and PC games, among others. — TJD, GMA News
