Pinoy YouTube musicians appeal for Yolanda aid with ‘moving’ music video
Filipino singers at home and abroad who made it big on video-sharing site YouTube have came out with a four-and-a-half-minute music video, “The Prayer”, to appeal for aid for victims of super typhoon Yolanda. "Filipinos have become renown(ed) the world over for their freakishly good singing ability, so it only made sense to put their vocal talents to use for the good of a country, which has had to endure so much of late," read a statement from viral-marketing service Green Mango, which produced the video. Green Mango explained that the separately recorded tracks from each of the singers were "painstakingly edited together and sound mastered to form an utterly moving and compelling 'virtual choir.'" The project "took over 500 emails to put everything together from start to finish." Among the Filipino YouTube stars featured in the video were Zendee "the Random Girl" Tenerefe and blind 11-year-old Joyce Jimenez, who gained fame for her rendition of Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball." Other stars in the video included: - Aldrich Talonding, who like Tenerefe were featured on Ellen Degeneres' show due to their respective viral videos. Aldrich starred in a crudely videotaped rendition of "Dance with my Father." - American Idol singers Marvin Calderon Jr. and Jett Hermano - Mark "Kram" Agpas (Austria) - Bryson Andres (Alaska) - Mica Javier (Philippines) - Ashley & Amanda (Canada) - Cezka Mariz (Australia) - Ryan Narciso (Canada) - Jett Hermano (USA) - Marielle "Yele" Castro (Dubai) According to a report from tech-news website Mashable, the video "layers the powerful vocals together, blending them in perfect harmony and ending with a solo by the country's most recent viral sensation — 11-year-old Joyce Jimenez, the blind little girl who touched hearts everywhere with her cover of Miley Cyrus' 'Wrecking Ball' last month." "It's impossible to not be moved by the incredible voices," said Mashable. — DVM, GMA News
