YouTube rolls out 3-second intro feature

Good news for users of video-sharing site YouTube: they can now upload a three-second introduction to videos on their channels.

Software engineer John Gregg said the feature could help users boost recognition for their brands via a "distinctive intro" for their videos.

"Many of you have asked us for a way to create a distinctive intro for your videos, so you can more easily build a consistent brand your fans will recognize. Well, game on. Starting today you can automatically add an intro video up to three seconds to the start of every video on your channel," Gregg said in a blog post.

He even likened a good intro to the iconic opening sequence of the hit animated TV series "The Simpsons."

Gregg said users can upload the intro as an unlisted video, then select that video when they click on "Add a channel branding intro."

But Gregg also warned such videos cannot be used as ads, sponsorships or product placements.

"Note that these intros may not be used as ads, sponsorships, or product placements. We also don't recommend this feature be used by channels using their videos as advertisements," he said. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
