German 'soccer ghost' draws millions of viewers

Halloween is still half a year away, but netizens appeared intrigued by what seemed to be a ghost running in the middle of a soccer match in Germany.

 

A video posted on YouTube May 17 showed the figure running in a portion of the field at the match of BVB Dortmund against Bayern Munich.

 

"Ghost at Match of Borussia Dortmund vs Bayern Munich 0-2 !! | Is this real !!! Unbelievable!!" said the user who uploaded the video (Ghost at Match of BVB Dortmund vs Bayern Munich 0-2 2014 !! | DFB Cup Final 17/05/2014).



But many who viewed the video dismissed the claim of a ghost, with several observers pointing out that it was just a mirror image of a player on the other side of the screen—likely an "artefact" or aberration of the video itself, not a real-life occurrence.

Still, as of Friday morning, the video had close to 4.5 million views on YouTube, just six days after it was posted.

Meanwhile, tech site Mashable noted another "phantom" caught on camera in Bolivia last month. "Maybe ghosts just love soccer," it said. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
