Joketime police: PNP Twitter account tries its hand at humor


At first glance, one would think the Philippine National Police's (PNP's) Twitter account had been hacked.
 
Over the past few days, the account has featured not just the usual straight answers to anti-crime concerns, but also some offbeat—even downright humorous—replies to off-the-cuff questions.
 
For example, this little gem for police on the prowl:

Despite the occasionally jarring tongue-in-cheek replies, the account still gives straight answers to straightforward requests for assistance, such as this tipoff about an ongoing drug drop in Cavite:
 
 
Explanation
 
A memo posted by former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority traffic discipline head Yves Gonzalez may explain this - it's part of the PNP's effort to humanize the account:
 
 
It added this "contributes in building the rapport between the police and the netizens as it shapes the general public perception that the PNP is present and ready to listen to issues affecting peace and order."
 
According to the memo, the PNP Twitter account will also provide "practical guidance with a touch of humor to show them the lighter side of law enforcement."
 
So at last, you have an answer to the age-old question of which policemen are "under the saya (henpecked)":
