'Gangnam Style' nears TWO BILLION views on YouTube

Nearly two years after it started a worldwide craze, Korean artist PSY's "Gangnam Style" continues to cast its spell, nearing two billion views on YouTube as of this week.

 

As of 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, the official video of the wildly popular song had 1,997,678,892 views and counting.

 

The official "Gangnam Style" video was published on July 15, 2012, and reached one billion views before the end of 2012.

 

 

"Judging by the pace of "Gangnam Style" views, it seems likely it will surpass the 2 billion mark sometime this week," tech site CNET said.

 

Mashable pointed out that two billion is "almost six times the population of the United States." 

 

While the song spent 31 weeks on Billboard's Hot 100 list and generated countless parodies, "it also spent approximately three months stuck in just about every human being's head," Mashable added.

 

PSY's follow-up hit, "Gentleman," had over 680 million views as of Wednesday morning. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
