Justin.tv shuts down as Twitch.tv soars

As its spinoff site Twitch.tv continues to prosper, pioneering video site Justin.tv officially shut down this week.

In a note on its website, Justin.tv said its mobile apps and APIs will no longer work, even as it thanked its users for "seven years of live video memories."

"The Justin.tv website, mobile apps, and APIs are no longer in service. Thank you sincerely for seven years of live video memories," it said.

While Justin.tv pioneered live video on the Internet in 2007, it will be remembered for being the parent site of game livestreaming site Twitch.tv.

Such as been Twitch.tv's success that VentureBeat.com reported Google has acquired it for $1 billion.

Those behing Justin.tv said their resources are now focused on Twitch, with Justin.tv being renamed Twitch Interactive Inc. last February.

With Justin.tv's closure, users' accounts are now closed, and they can no longer access settings or content, though those who use Justin.tv accounts to log in to Twitch can still do so, at least for now.

Still, those using a justin.tv account to log in to Twitch should complete a form to have their accounts transferred to Twitch for full site use before September 5.

A separate article on tech site The Verge said Justin.tv started out in March 2007 when Justin Kan streamed his life live 24/7 from a head-mounted webcam.
