Facebook 'Buy' button to be powered by Stripe online payment system

Earlier this July, Facebook quietly began testing a 'Buy' button integrated directly into its ads and pages, making buyer's remorse possible directly from your smartphone or tablet. According to tech news site Re/code, the payment startup Stripe is their partner in powering the technology.

This would not be the first time that Facebook has worked with other payment companies to develop features. It's also not the first time Facebook has worked with Stripe, as the two partnered with Braintree to enable users to autofill their payment information on online merchant sites using their Facebook information.

Stripe is a startup that was founded and established in 2010 to create a "developer-friendly way to accept payments online and in mobile apps," and claims to "process billions of dollars a year for thousands of companies of all sizes."

The San Francisco-based company "[enables] frictionless transactions" through the licensing of APIs designed for a number of languages including Java, Python, Node, and Ruby. In addition to Facebook, the company counts Apple and Twitter among its newest partners. With Twitter, it will facilitate a similar buy button. With Apple, Stripe will act as a "highly recommended" payments partner for the Apple Pay system.

Other companies that use Stripe include TED, Humble Bundle, Foursquare and Dailymotion.

A Facebook spokesperson confirmed that Stripe will be the sole partner in this commerce initiative and it's likely that it will really be put to the test as the holiday shopping season approaches. — TJD, GMA News
