Wow mali! African man posing as Pinay beauty scams Malaysian of his clothes and money

A Malaysian man was scammed of his clothes and money after he supposedly fell head-over-heels for a "Filipina beauty" online—only to find out he was chatting with an African man.

The victim of the scam said he was enticed by "Jessica Leung" on video messaging platform Skype, according to Malaysia's The Star Online.

However, the report added that an actual Filipina may also have been involved in the scam, since the bank account used by the perpetrators was traced to a Filipina.

Speaking at a press conference called by Malaysian authorities, the victim—a 30-year-old male designer—said the "Filipina beauty" persuaded him to strip naked online on Skype.

'I couldn't resist'

"I knew there were cases like this and I suspected the girl might be fake. But when I saw how beautiful ‘she’ was ... I couldn’t resist," he said.

He said the Filipina claimed to be one Sabrina Leung, a worker at a hotel in Dubai who was going to Malaysia to meet with relatives, and said he could see her then.

"Then she asked me to go on Skype with her and get naked. She asked me to take off my clothes too. I did because she said she was feeling sad and bored," he said.

But after he stripped naked on Skype, he found Leung turned out to be an African man who demanded RM3,000 (P40,257).

He said "Leung" messaged him with a YouTube link to a video of him naked, and demanded he deposit RM3,000 to a Western Union account.

The African connection

The victim also said he was shown Facebook profiles belonging to his relatives, friends and co-workers and even his girlfriend. The scammer threatened to send the videos to them as well.

MCA public services and complaints department chief Datuk Seri Michael Chong also said checks showed the YouTube channel hosting Tan’s nude video belonged to a man in French Guiana.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has since successfully requested that the video be taken down.

Meanwhile, Chong said the department had received 15 reports since last year, with up to RM120,000 extorted from victims. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
