Social Media users help rescue girl chained in Cotabato house

With help from social media users, authorities were able to track down and rescue a 14-year-old girl who was chained inside her house by her own parents in South Cotabato province.

 

The rescue took place at the Lake Sebu area in South Cotabato, GMA's Unang Hirit reported on Friday morning.

 

Municipal social welfare and development office personnel took custody of the girl, who allegedly suffers from mental health issues.

 

Social welfare officers learned of the girl's plight through a video posted by a concerned citizen on a social media site.

 

Initial investigation showed the girl's parents claimed they chained her inside the house for her own good.

 

The mother will undergo counseling so she will be reminded of her responsibilities, the report said. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
