Twitter rolls out 'highlights' feature for Android

Users of Android smartphones and tablets may now get a summary of what Twitter considers could be the best tweets for them.

The new feature, dubbed Highlights, is opt-in for users, tech lead Gordon Luk said in a blog post.

"Highlights, a fast and simple summary of Twitter, lets you catch up quickly on the best stuff that is most relevant to you. To create your Highlights, we look at things like the accounts and conversations that are popular among people you follow, Tweets from people you’re closely tied to, topics and events that are trending in your area or within your network, and people that are popular or trending among people you follow," Luk said.

Luk added that while a Twitter user's home timeline is a good place to browse through and engage with Tweets, "it can be challenging to find the time to get through everything."

A user who opts in to receiving Highlights will get a notification on his or her phone up to twice daily.

"When you open the notification, you’ll go directly into the Twitter app where your Highlights will be displayed in a new interface. View them all by swiping through from right to left. When you’ve reached the last Highlight, another swipe puts you directly into your home timeline," he said.

The new feature will initially be available in English to Android users. — Joel Locsin/ELR, GMA News
