Snapchat may soon allow ‘hands-free’ video watching

Good news is coming for Snapchat users: you can soon watch videos without having to keep your fingers on the phone's or tablet's screen.

 

A report on The Next Web said the company's Evan Spiegel announced it is working on this feature at Recode’s Code Conference.

 

Users presently have to press and hold the screen to watch video, the report said.

One of the reasons Snapchat employs a press-and-hold scheme for video playback is that it ensures engagement. Changing that model is risky as Snapchat wouldn’t actually know you’re viewing video," TNW said.

 

However, it is not clear if users still have to to tap the screen, or if the videos will play automatically.

 

Also, Spiegel said Snapchat is “not working on anything right now” with regard to live-streaming.

 

Spiegel also noted Snapchat presently has 100 million daily active users. Of these, 65 percent upload video. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
