British tourist ‘ridiculed, bullied’ while on vacation in El Nido

British national Elayne Peddy visited the Philippines for the summer this 2016, preparing for a wonderful time in the paradise-like island of El Nido. When she returned, she posted a video blog confirming the many accolades El Nido receives from travel magazines.

"The country in itself is beautiful," she said, "The scenery is beautiful. You know, blue waters...you can look down and see fishes. It's like paradise, in a way. It's a beautiful country."

But it all went south from there as Elayne detailed the "horrible" experience she had, recounting the insults and taunts she received from people.

"It was the worst four days of my entire life," she said, adding, ""Whenever I stepped out, I had people pointing, I had people laughing, I had people giving me the most hideous comments ever. I was called...a fat ugly monkey."

Peddy said that while buying something from a store, someone grabbed her stomach and chanted, "Fat, fat, fat!" She was also made to pay twice, because she was bigger.

After El Nido, she also went to Manila and Cebu, where she was treated better. However, she said that she's "never, ever, ever" going back to the Philippines after what she described as "torture."

In response, people have offered apologies to Peddy, including celebrities like Mikey Bustos and Daphne Oseña-Paez. — AT, GMA News
