Lady Gaga in tears during tribute for the slain in Orlando
"They are sons and daughters. They're fathers and mothers. They are all our brothers and our sisters."
Lady Gaga was in tears at a vigil for the victims of the shooting at Pulse, a nightclub in Orlando, Florida. The singer is an icon for the LGBT community and her single "Born This Way" became an anthem in the face of discrimination and homophobia.
Numerous videos of her speech at the vigil were shared on Instagram and other social media platforms where she is seen dressed down, far from her usual glamorous style.
"Tonight, I gather humbly with you as a human being, in peace, in sincerity, in commitment, in solidarity to take a real moment and mourn the tragic loss of these innocent beautiful people," she said. "Let's all, today, pledge an allegiance to them and to their family who are suffering so deeply."
She ends her speech by reading the names of the victims.
On Instagram, she posted a photo of the moment and wrote, "I saw the fear and sadness in the faces of so many, but I felt comfort knowing there are millions all over the world who are not only part of the LGBT community, but are part of the straight community and so impassioned by this tragedy. You are not alone."
