'The Boss' Sasha Banks has a guarantee for Pinoy fans ahead of WWE Live Manila

WWE Women's Champion Sasha Banks promised fans in the Philippines on Friday to expect the best out of The Boss when she faces Charlotte at WWE Live Manila on September 9.

"You can expect the absolute best show in the world. Definitely from your favorite superstar Sasha Banks," Banks said.

"Definitely, going to the Philippines, I'm so, so excited, I cannot wait to be there. I cannot wait to show our fans what Sasha Banks can do and not only with Sasha Banks, but all of the WWE Superstars are looking forward to going there and it's gonna be a fun, amazing show."

Before the September event at Mall of Asia Arena, Banks will face Charlotte at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. It was the same arena where Banks lost the NXT Women's Championship to her friend and Battleground tag partner Bayley a year ago.

"Walking into Brooklyn, I am, to be honest, excited 'cause this is the place where- fans, all around the world, talking about my match (with Bayley)," she said. "I want people to just walk in and being like, holy crap, that was an amazing performance from the women yet again."

Unlike at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn however, the champ is determined to hold on to her belt and stay the Women's Champion at SummerSlam.

"I've been in the ring with Charlotte many a times, I know her weakness, I know her strengths, and I'm ready for a battle, I'm ready for a war. Being Sasha Banks, I'll show the world I'm the boss," Banks said.

Shy child

The road to becoming The Boss was not as smooth as this declaration.

Banks, who admitted to being a shy child, said she had difficulty speaking with others until she "became The Boss" and "drew confidence" in this new character.

The persona of The Boss, including her unique look, was itself derived from her cousin, Snoop Dogg, who took her to her first WrestleMania as a teen and rapped her intro at her first WrestleMania as a competitor.

"When he took me to my first WrestleMania when I was 16 and took me to a show after that, I told him I wanted to be in the WWE. He said you can do this, this is your dream. If you wanna do it, you can achieve it," Banks said.

Her gear during the historic three-way match with Becky Lynch and Charlotte at that WrestleMania was inspired by yet another major influence in her life: Eddie Guerrero.

"He showed the world he was the best when people told him he was too small or he would never be anything more than just a helping hand- I don't wanna say a jobber, but- but he wanted to be more," Banks explained.

"He showed the world that he could be champion and give people entertainment, but nobody believed in him and he believed in himself because he knew that he wanted to be the best," she continued.

Banks found inspiration in Guerrero's uphill battle to enter the WWE and prove his worth in an industry that then did not give credence to smaller wrestlers having a shot at the gold.

"I've got told so many times, no, no, no, this is not the right opportunity for you, you'll never make it, you're too small, you're not pretty enough. I knew how badly I wanted to be here and I did not take no for an answer. And here I am now, as the women's champion," she recalled.

Passion for wrestling

Guerrero's well-documented love for the business also mirrored Banks' own passion for wrestling and determination.

"I love doing this every time I step into this ring. I just always wanna show the world that I'm here to be the best, Eddie was here to be the best. You can be small, but you can show the world that you can be better than the biggest dog in the park," she said.

Her belief extends to the entire women's division, which she predicts will one day headline a future WrestleMania.

"One of my dreams before I leave WWE is to main event a Wrestlemania. If it's not a WrestleMania, I would love to know that I helped put a footstep in the right direction for women to main event at WrestleMania. If not, I would love to main event a Raw, any pay-per-view," she said.

And if Banks does step into the ring for the first women-lead WrestleMania, she is confident that The Legit Boss will overcome any and all opponents.

"I know, given the right opportunity, I can kill it. You can put anybody right in front of me, it wouldn't matter. I can throw it with anybody," Banks said.

Banks was one of the up and coming talents Big Show praised during his trip to Manila to promote WWE Live in July.

Both superstars will appear at the stacked card in September, which will include:

  • Roman Reigns vs Seth Rollins
  • Finn Bálor vs Chris Jericho
  • Cesaro vs Sheamus
  • New Day (c) vs Gallows and Anderson for the WWE Tag Team Championship
  • Sasha Banks (c) vs Charlotte for the WWE Women's Championship
  • Sami Zayn vs Kevin Owens
  • Golden Truth vs The Shining Stars
  • Neville vs Bo Dallas w/ Curtis Axel
