Fans of Philippines, Thailand both claim Miss Universe 3rd runner-up
If the internet is to believed, maybe we're all 3rd runners-up at the 65th Miss Universe pageant.
While every beauty queen deserves a crown, some supporters online are fighting for every bit of recognition for their bets to claim an official win.
On Thursday, fans of the Philippines' bet Maxine Medina and Thai representative Chalita Suansane both took to social media to snatch the 3rd runner-up title
Medina's sister Ferica was among those who shared a photo asserting the Philippines' placement in the recently concluded pageant. According to Ferica, the announcement was made at the after party at Okada. However, she later deleted the post.
Neither the Department of Tourism not the Miss Universe Organization have released the official ranking. Other personalities and celebrities who attended the event are not offering confirmation of the supposed announcement.
An unofficial Pia Wurtzbach fan page also claimed the victory for Medina, but vigilant netizens took to the comments section to disprove the claim.
"Maxine is on the 4th position and its Kenya who is on the 3rd position," Facebook user MassiMich Zapanta Aquino Chaussadis said. Another user, Abigail Garcia, said, "Dear admin, stop spreading FAKE NEWS. Konting hiya naman."
ROzzy Lasanas chimed in with "ADMIN its 4th runner up, miss Thailand is the 3rd runner up."
On Instagram, Thai fans were celebrating Chalita Suansane's supposed 3rd runner-up finish.
