Foreigners react to viral Jollibee ads
A quick search on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram can net thousands of weepy reactions from Filipinos who were affected by the "hugot" commercials put out by fast food giant Jollibee for Valentine's Day.
But their commercials "Vow", "Crush", and "Date" may have reached peak virality as foreigners who neither understand Tagalog nor the nebulous concept of "hugot" began posting reaction videos to the ads on Youtube.
Adobo Sandwich, a channel maintained by a Fil-Am with his American wife, reacted to the three in separate videos, with their reaction to "Vow" netting the most views of the series.
Gabe and Kayla Bermudez shared at the end of "Vow" that the commercial brought back memories of their first date at a food court where they ate McDonalds, the rival fast food joint of Jollibee.
Meanwhile, Josh Dove, Dan Evans, and HugKnucklesTV watched all three commercials and gave their reactions: Josh looked lost at the end of "Crush", Dan jokingly chided Jollibee for being "mean", and HugKnucklesTV teared up at the opening scene of "Date".
The Dardo Project and Angelina Eonni's reaction videos gained a cumulative 82,749 views for their heartache and fascination.
Dardo said "Crush" was "not as devastatingly painful" as "Vow" while Angelina's guest Alicia explained that the US only had a handful of commercials that evoked strong emotions like Jollibee's did. —Rie Takumi/JST, GMA News
