Musician writes song for pregnant giraffe

A US musician has dedicated an original song to internet sensation and long-pregnant April, a giraffe.

The video, which was filmed on April Fool's Day (April 1), was made by musician Ricky Reilly in response to a challenge from one of his fans.

Reilly, a Berklee College of Music graduate, drew the inspiration for the song from his fiancé, who has been watching and waiting for April the giraffe to give birth for a month.

April, a 15-year-old giraffe at the Animal Adventure Park in New York, has gone viral while being monitored by a live cam of her pregnancy. The stream has drawn hundreds of thousands of viewers.

April is expecting her fourth calf and has been pregnant for almost 19 months. WWF says the species' normal gestation period lasts for up to 16 months. — Reuters
