La Salle student gov't issues statement on viral dress code for women's month activity

The University Student Government of the De La Salle on Thursday took down a post detailing a dress code for their "Break the Silence" event and issued a statement addressing the concerns people raised.

"We would like to clarify that this post was part of the week-long publicity effort regarding the event and was specifically released to inform the external guests of the dress code of the University, to ensure smooth entry into the campus," the statement read.

A number of people have left comments on the post on the Facebook page saying that the dress code defeats the purpose of the event, claiming that it doesn't empower women but instead promotes victim-blaming.

The dress code, which specified everything down to the shoe, was meant as a guide to encourage people "to wear attires that would consider the educational character of the University."

Some people pointed out that the message of the wordy poster could have been more to the point had they just indicated that the event is "smart casual."
