Poodle injured after paw gets pinned in escalator
A poodle was injured after one of its paws got stuck in an escalator in a mall in Taguig City last Tuesday.
A report by Victoria Tulad in 24 Oras on Thursday showed a photo of the trapped poodle, which was posted online by one Dennis Grageda.
He said the dog cried as if in immense pain.
"Yung sigaw niya talaga as in talaga parang sobrang sakit. Hindi siya kinakarga ng may-ari sa kanya kaya po yun po yung dahilan kaya naipit siya dun sa escalator," he said.
The escalator was brought to a halt and that authorities used a screw driver to lift the metal and dislodge the dog.
Grageda said he noticed that the poodle couldn't step on his injured paw and it seemed to be bleeding.
"Napansin ko po sa aso na hindi na po niya maitapak dun sa floor yung paa niya. Then may mga dugo po na lumalabas sa paa niya," he said.
"Awang awa po ako doon sa aso," he added.
A mall official said that the owner put down the dog to get something from his bag, which resulted in the poodle's paw getting pinned down.
Authorities had offered to bring the dog to a veterinarian but the owner declined.
According to the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), pet dogs should not be allowed to walk down the escalator.
"Pwede siyang buhatin, in a basket, in a carrier, pero never on the escalator. Kung malaki naman sila at 'di makarga dapat stairs or elevator and ginagamit kasi nga may mga buhok buhok sila pwedeng maipit," Anna Cabrera, PAWS executive director said.
She added that it is the mall's responsibility to ensure signs that remind owners not to bring their pets to an escalator.
She also reminded pet owners to be always mindful when they bring their pets out in public.
"When you are in a public place dapat laging kontrolado mo yung alaga mong hayop. Let's exercise prudence when it comes to our pets. It could mean a life or death situation for them," she said. —Jessica Bartolome/JST, GMA News
