A concerned netizen asks help from DepEd after Sahaya gets robbed of the valedictorian post
Netizens couldn’t help but take to social media to voice their support and concern for Sahaya (Bianca Umali) and virtually applaud the show itself.
Case in point: After a recent episode where Sahaya got robbed of her valedictorian post, a netizen took to Facebook Messenger to ask the Department of Education to intervene for Sahaya.
"Si Sahaya po talaga ang valedictorian!!! Dinadaya lang po siya ng principal at 'yung principal po tinutulungan si Freeda sa mga sagot!!!" Facebook user Kevin wrote to DepEd.
He then posted screenshots of his private message to DepEd, showing how he defended Sahaya and pleaded to help get her justice. Unsurprisingly, that turned viral, too.
As of writing, Kevin's post as generating more than 5,000 shares and almost 500 comments.
It's hard to blame Kevin because the episode really is affecting: The principal publicly shamed Sahaya by announcing to the entire class that Fareeda will become the new valedictorian and that Sahaya will only receive the Salutatorian accolade.
The nerve right?
We’re happy to report that even without the DepEd’s intercession, Sahaya got what was rightfully hers.
She gave a tear-jerking speech, which in turn affected even more viewers and netizens, who are all behind the little girl who could.
"Sahaya" is a recently launched GMA drama series that tells the story of a Badjaw girl staying true to herself and her culture, as she finds her place in the world.
Viewers have been showing support for the show as it upholds culture, education, and core Filipino values. Meanwhile, celebrities have been heralding the talented and hardworking cast.
"The show’s goal is to represent ‘yung mga Badjao, ‘yung kultura nila. We are also sending a strong message for feminism din," said lead star Bianca Umali. — LA, GMA News
