Photo of Mayon Volcano under ‘umbrella cloud’ goes viral

Umbrella, crown, ‘salakot’—many tags were given by netizens to describe the cloud formation that was seen over the Mayon Volcano recently, whose photo went viral online.

Noli Luna captured the view of Mayon with her umbrella cloud on April 23 around 5:30 a.m. and later posted the photo on Facebook with the caption:

“Daragang Magayon, wearing her white umbrella...”

Only few residents near the landmark in Albay had the opportunity to witness the breathtaking cloud formation on Mayon, because it eventually faded.

Some speculated that the cloud formation was a bad omen of a volcanic eruption, but this is just a normal cloud formation that is called lenticular cloud, named for its lens-shaped structure.

The photo earned more than 31 thousand reactions and almost 30 thousand shares on Facebook, as of writing. —Joviland Rita/LDF, GMA News
