Nurse details struggle behind wearing PPE

This is why we must applaud and take care of our medical front liners. Apart from being the most at risk of contracting the virus, wearing personal protective equipment is no joke.

Jose Ricamonte Karganilla, a nurse, told GMA Public Affairs about his struggles, wearing it for eight hours straight. In one of the photos that he shared for instance, you'll instantly see his impaired vision from behind his goggles.

Jose works as one of the nurses who screen inside the emergency room of Sta. Ana Hospital in Manila for possible cases of COVID-19.

But behind the masked protection, Jose could only lament how patients and the general public remain unaware of the difficulties of health care workers in wearing the PPE.

He shared that while he was wearing his PPE, a patient asked him why he looked struggling while writing on a piece of paper.

He found himself thinking: "Kung alam lang nila kung gaano kahirap ‘yong magsuot ng PPE at goggles for eight hours straight.”

Currently, Jose had prepared five days worth of clothes because he decided to stay in the hospital.

Like many of the country's health care workers, Jose also has a family and he does not want to be a threat to them.

As of Wednesday, six new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the country, bringing the total number of infected persons to 193, according to the Department of Health.

President Rodrigo Duterte has already placed the entire Philippines under state of calamity, allowing the government to tap more funds to contain the spread of the COVID-19.
