Father tries to walk from Bulacan to Naga to see hospitalized son amid community quarantine
A man tried to walk from Bulacan to Naga City in Camarines Sur just to visit his son in the hospital.
According to a post by "Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho," the father wasn't able to commute to his home province as public transport was suspended amid the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine.
"Wala na po akong masakyan. Eh kailangan kong makita ang anak ko na nasa ospital. Naisip ko po na lakarin na lang. Malayo, pero sigurado akong makikita ko ang anak ko," said the man, who works in Bulacan.
He said his son was rushed to the hospital back in January due to gastroenteritis but they had to admit him back again last week since he needed to undergo another operation.
His son was also diagnosed with intussusception ascending colon back in July 2018. The man admitted that although he couldn't fully comprehend what the disease was, the doctor told them that his son needed a colostomy bag.
Because they couldn't afford to buy it, his wife decided to make a DIY colostomy bag instead.
As the man embarked on his journey going to Naga, multiple strangers from truck drivers to motorcycle riders decided to help him out.
"May truck na nagsakay sa akin papuntang Delpan," he said. "Habang naglalakad po ako papuntang Pasay, may nagmagandang loob po na rider na ihahatid niya raw po ako. Hindi ko siya kilala, hindi ko siya kaano-ano pero handa siyang tumulong."
"Hindi po naging madali 'yung biyahe. May ilang beses pong muntikan sumemplang 'yung motor," he said. "Pero kahit delikado, pinilit po niya na mahatid ako. Walang hanggang pasasalamat po."
However, when they reached the boundary of Quezon and Bicol, they weren't given entry. He thought he couldn't make it to Bicol anymore, but luckily he met a family who gave him a helping hand.
"Hinatid po nila ako hanggang BMC [Bicol Medical Center], Naga sa tulong na rin po ng mga sundalo," he said.
Although he still has to quarantine himself for 14 days to avoid spreading the virus before he could see his son, the man felt grateful for everyone who helped him out.
"'Nak, andito na si Papa. Hindi pa lang ako makalapit. 14 days pa. Pakatatag ka, 'nak. Mahal ka namin," he said. --Kaela Malig/MGP, GMA News
