Doctor requests children to send well-wishes to COVID-19 patients through emailed handmade cards
A doctor from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) has requested parents and teachers to encourage children to make handmade cards for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients and submit a photo or a scanned copy of the card to covidletters [at] gmail [dot] com.
Dr. Nicole Perreras, a doctor from RITM, started a personal initiative to help uplift the spirits of COVID-19 patients as they fight against the virus.
Her initiative was immediately embraced by mothers struggling with bored children, well-meaning schools, and even museums.
Let us help uplift the spirits of our RITM patients. Kids are invited to make handmade letters for the patients of RITM. Each patient will receive a “get well” card as part of their breakfast tray.

The U.P. Child Development Center quickly shared the initiative on its Facebook page, saying:
Dr. Nicole Perreras, a doctor in the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM), requests parents and teachers to encourage children to make handmade cards for the Coronavirus patients to uplift their spirits. Each patient will receive a get well card as part of their breakfast tray.
As we hope for the patients to heal and recover, let us take this opportunity to be a source of strength and inspiration for the COVID patients and our healthcare workers.?
While RITM told GMA News Online that the project isn't official, simply "an initiative from one of our doctors, Dr. Nicole Perreras," the project has generally been embraced.
On Saturday, Dr. Perreras posted photos of some of the cards she's received on her Facebook page.
"We all need a dose of happy this morning. Say hello to RITM’s early morning deliveries! Ty kids for these rays of sunshine. They will be our patients’ special vitamins at lunchtime," the post read.
