Child wears giant plastic bag so she could hug her frontliner mom

It’s been a long time since a health worker in Nueva Ecija came home to her family due to the fear of exposing them to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Ramona Bernardo, who has been working at the Nueva Ecija Doctors' Hospital as a nurse, said she was missing her daughter a great deal. She last saw her daughter on March 15.

Nearly a month later, on April 11, she went home for a quick visit and devised a way that would allow Ramona to hug her without exposing her to the virus.

As seen in a video shared by Ramona, the child was wrapped top to bottom in a plastic bag, and wore a face mask.

The mom wore a face mask, as well.

When the daughter wanted to remove her plastic suit, Ramona decided to leave their premises immediately. At the moment, Ramona's daughter is with her lola, while she is back at work.

While many netizens were moved by the clip that was shared on Facebook, there were also some comments who stressed that the public should stay inside their homes as much as possible to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The Department of Health has stated that the disease, which has infected more than 4,600 people in the country as of Sunday, can be transmitted through respiratory droplets.

There have been a total 297 deaths reported, along with 197 recoveries. — Margaret Claire Layug/LA, GMA News
