Daughter wears makeshift PPE to hug soldier dad on his birthday

A child wore a makeshift personal protective equipment just to hug and greet her soldier dad on his birthday.

In a Facebook post, Joly Marie Masa shared the photo of her daughter and her husband talking outside their house.

Joly said her husband is serving as a frontliner as the country battles the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). To keep his family safe, he hasn't gone home since March 30.

"I thought I can only see this scene on social media until today having this in front of me is so heartbreaking. I can't contain my emotion as a parent seeing this," she said.

Her daughter covered herself with a trash bag, a face mask, and a face shield just to be able to give her father the letter she wrote the night before.

Their meeting lasted for only three minutes.

"Please stay at home for the kids to hug their parents once again. Please stay at home because these frontliners missed their families so much," Joly said.

In Nueva Ecija, another child wore a makeshit PPE to hug her mother, who is working as a nurse. They hadn't seen each other for almost a month.

According to the World Health Organization, COVID-19 is transmitted primarily through respiratory droplets.

As of Monday, the Philippines has 4,932 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 315 deaths and 242 recoveries. --MGP, GMA News
