Fil-Am woman receives racist threats from white citizen in California

A Filipino-American woman received racist threats from a white citizen in Torrance, California, on June 10.

According to a CNN report, “Sherry” was exercising at a park when a white woman approached her and began harassing her.

The report said the unidentified woman accused Sherry of blocking the stairs in the park.

The older woman told her to “get the f*** out of this world, get the f*** out of this state, go back to whatever f***ing Asian country you belong in.”

She also threatened the Filipino-American: “You’re gonna get your a** kicked by my family, they’re gonna f*** you up,” she said. “This is not your place! This is not your home! We do not want you here.”

When she realized Sherry was taking a video of the encounter, she told her: “You put that on Facebook, I hope you do, because every f***ing person will beat the crap out of you from here on out.”

She even berated the younger woman for her fashion choices: “Who wears black in California sun? Who the f*** wears black? Are you an idiot?”

Sherry was able to take a video of the encounter as she usually shoots her workouts for her personal fitness diary, according to her friend who uploaded the clip on Twitter. 

The Filipino-American has since filed a police report and an investigation is ongoing.

“I was minding my own business. I thought this would never happen to me. I thought if you just mind your business, nothing could happen,” Sherry said.

“I don’t feel safe here now,” she added. “It was somewhere I called home because it reminds me of Hawaii, where I was born and raised, and now I just don’t even want to go out.”

Sherry has requested CNN not to reveal her identity out of fear for her safety.

On June 11, Sherry requested privacy “regarding statements and interviews.”

The incident comes in the midst of antiracism protests all over the world following the brutal killing of black American George Floyd by white policeman Derek Chauvin. – RC, GMA News
