US Rep. Ocasio-Cortez had a sweet Twitter exchange with her elementary teacher and netizens are swooning

US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, also referred to as AOC, will deliver a speech at the Democratic National Convention next week, and on Twitter Thursday, the young politician seemed to be nervous and was encouraging herself.

Reposting a tweet about her speech, she added all 10 lines of "I Only Have a Minute," a poem by Dr. Benjamin Mays.

What came next is unexpectedly cute: One of AOC's elementary teachers replied to it with sweet encouragement!

"You got this," the teacher began. "Remember all the poems we recited together in the 2nd grade? It was prep for this moment," she said, introducing herself.

"You got this," she repeated before ending her message with a heart emoji.

AOC's reply betrayed her pleasant excitement. "Ms. Jacobs! Is that you?!" She first asked complete with a crying emoji.

"Yes I do remember the poems we recited in second grade! You prepared me perfectly for this moment," she said before thanking her grade school teacher "for encouraging my growth, and believing in me as a child."

Collectively, their sweet Twitter exchange has generated more than 31K hearts, more than 200 replies, and over 1K retweets.

A quick click to Ms. Jacobs' account tells us she's a veteran elementary school teacher who is uncertain about the future, inspired by her former student AOC, and is hopeful about the Biden/Harris tandem in the coming US elections in November.

She pinned their exchange at the top of her Twitter account and said today is "one of my lowest days this summer, worried about my teaching future. And then this."

It's been a tough week, and the weekend's still a day away but this short Twitter exchange might just be able to carry us through. — LA, GMA News
