BTS fans enraged at Cayetano for using the K-Pop group's name for new house bloc

Former Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano drew flak from Filipino fans of BTS after the lawmaker used decided to name his new house bloc after the South Korean super group.

They're calling it "BTS sa Kongreso" and Filipino BTS fans aren't too happy about it.

Following the news, the hashtag #CayetenoStopUsingBTS trended on Twitter for much of Wednesday, accumulating more than 10,000 tweets from furious Filipino BTS fans.

The BTS fans were enraged at Cayetano for using the K-Pop group's fame for the new house bloc.

One of the tweets read, "*Cayetano using BTS for Clout because he's lacking attention. Army: #CayetanoStopUsingBTS."

Meanwhile, another tweet read, "You're definitely messing up with the wrong artist, company and fandom. Nakakahiya to. #CayetanoStopUsingBTS.

Some of the fans are also encouraging BTS' agency Big Hit Entertainment to take legal actions against Cayetano and other lawmakers involved in using the name.

But Cayetano said they used the acronym of the popular K-pop group only to draw attention and not to offend the fans. BTS, he explained, only means "Bayanihan, Tapang at Serbisyo."

"''Yung ginamit yung BTS, in the sense na back to service, na Bayanihan, Tapang at Serbisyo, kasi siyempre you want to get people's attention but there is no offense sa kahit sinong fans, kakampi man namin, kalaban, yung iba natutuwa, yung iba nagagalit," Cayetano explained to reporters.

Cayetano urged fans not to politicize the issue, saying "Ang ibig lang naman naming sabihin doon, 'Back to Service' Congress kaya 'BTS sa Congress'."

The other members of "BTS sa Kongreso" are Camarines Sur Representative Luis Raymund Villafuerte, Laguna Representative Dan Fernandez, Batangas Representative Raneo Abu, Anakalusugan party-list Representative Mike Defensor, Bulacan Representative Jose Antonio Sy-Alvarado, and Capiz Representative Fredenil Castro.

BTS, also known as Bangtan Boys, formed back in 2010 and is composed of RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook.

They also made history as the first K-Pop group who received a nomination at the prestigious Grammy Awards for their hit song, "Dynamite." — LA, GMA News
