Cop's wedding proposal to fellow patrol officer goes viral, earns hearts from netizens

A patrolman's surprise proposal to a patrolwoman went viral and earned hearts from netizens.

In the video shown on Oscar Oida's report on "24 Oras," Thursday, Darwin Mauricio was seen kneeling behind his girlfriend Vanessa Silvestre, who was busy opening the trunk of a car.

["I asked her to open the trunk of our car. I told her that I have a gift at the back. She had no idea that I was already kneeling behind her."]

Shocked by what was happening, Vanessa said she didn't know what to do but cry out of happiness.

"Tinatanong ko na siya ng, 'Vanessa Silvestre, will you marry me?' Kaso sobrang kaba, excited, kung anu-ano na 'yung nagiging sagot niya," Darwin said.

["I asked her, 'Vanessa Silvestre, will you marry me?' But because of nervousness, excitement, her answer was all over the place."]

["I didn't understand what was happening. I just saw him kneeling. I forgot to answer right away. I cried for a long time first before answering yes."]

According to the newly-engaged couple, they even had an argument before the proposal—which, by the way, was all part of Darwin's plan.

Darwin said he would always make Vanessa believe that he doesn't believe in proposals.

Darwin recalled.

["She would always tell me, 'You want to get married and build a family, but you don't want to propose. How would you know if I want to marry you?"]

"Sabi ko, 'Pwede naman tayo magpakasal kahit walang proposal' [I said, 'We can get married even with no proposal']," he continued.

Vanessa, heartbroken with Darwin's thoughts then, said she was so annoyed and hurt.

I didn't tell him that I was so close to crying, that I hoped but he just let me down]," she said.

The couple, who met as classmates in college then later became friends and lovers, have been together for three years.

Although they still have no date set for their special day, they already made vows to each other.

["Patrolwoman Silvestre, I won't promise you that I'll be a perfect husband or perfect father to our kids, to the family we'll build but I'll give my best.]

"Pagsisilbihan kita sa lahat ng makakaya ko [I'll care for you as best as I can]," Silvestre added.

Congratulations to the lovebirds!
