Olympics’ tweet congratulating Hidilyn Diaz is this year's most engaged tweet in the Philippines

Olympics’ tweet congratulating the country’s first gold medallist HIdilyn Diaz is this year’s most engaged tweet in the Philippines.

In a statement released on Thursday, Twitter said the congratulatory tweet from the Olympics stood out the most in the span between January 1 to November 15.

The tweet, posted on July 26, read, "History. Made. Hidilyn Diaz has won the first ever gold medal for Philippines!" as it accompanied a graphic of Hidalyn looking happy and triumphant.

As of writing, the tweet has garnered more than 149,000 likes and 56,000 retweets.

"It has been a victorious year for Philippine sports and Filipinos did not miss the chance to celebrate our win as it happens," Twitter said.

“This tweet congratulating the country’s first-ever gold medallist, Hidilyn Diaz, goes down in history and is this year’s most engaged Tweet in the Philippines,” it added.

Meanwhile, the Filipinos' most used emojis this year reflected the historical win as the flexed biceps and golden trophy emojis were the most tweeted about sports emojis in the Philippines.

Last July, Hidilyn made history as the first Filipino to win a gold medal at the Olympics after ruling the women's 55-kg weightlifting event in Tokyo, putting an end to the near century-long gold medal drought since the Philippines first competed in the games in 1924.
