Christmas carolers playing guitar, violin wow residents in Cebu
These musicians have found a way to make Christmas caroling even more enjoyable for them and their audiences in Cebu.
As seen and heard on Tina Panganiban-Perez’s “24 Oras” report Thursday, friends Jade Brigola and Siegfried Catipay played Christmas staples such as “Jingle Bell” and other Yuletide songs using their guitar and violin.
Like traditional carolers, they also went from house to house to perform holiday tunes. However, according to the musicians, they did not do it for the money.
“We’re just really making fun with our music,” they said. “Children will be happy with our music and they will feel the essence of Christmas. That’s the main point of our caroling.”
The two said they didn’t think their performances would go viral. In fact, they just did it out of boredom and continued when they realized they were having fun.
With their new and unusual way of caroling in the streets, residents like Jane Lastimoso felt she couldn’t just shell out a small amount or not give anything at all and say “patawad.”
Nevertheless, both the listeners and the musicians are happy to have experienced this style of caroling.
“Despite hardships today, mabibigyan namin sila ng kaligayahan sa aming pagkakaroling (we’re able to share happiness through our caroling),” said Siegfried.
