Man from Sultan Kudarat eats burning wood for pulutan
This man from Sultan Kudarat eats burning wood instead of the usual sisig and nuts for pulutan.
As seen on Kuya Kim’s “24 Oras” report Thursday, Roselino “Baroy” Ingis enjoys eating flaming pieces of wood while drinking alcohol. Baroy said he was already numb to the heat.
“Hindi naman po ako nasasaktan. Parang makalasa ako ng uling. Nagsimula iyan 16 years old pa lang ako. Sinubukan ko lang,” he said. “Madali lang maubos iyong kape ko kasi hindi masyadong mainit.”
According to Kuya Kim, burns can happen when the skin is exposed to a temperature of 44 degrees Celsius for six hours, while it can turn to severe burns at 88 degrees Celsius.
A person’s mouth, however, can be affected by burns even at temperatures lower than the ones mentioned earlier.
“Iyong mucosa, iyong balat, it can only tolerate kung ano iyong usual body temperature natin, which is 40 hanggang mga 50 degrees, pero more than that, 60, 70, mahirap na. Mapapaso ka na,” said ENT head and neck surgeon Dr. Dominador Garduno III.
So how is Baroy uninjured after eating ember? Garduno said he knew what he was doing.
“Binabasa niya muna nang mabuti iyong bibig niya bago niya pinapasok (wood). Biglang mag-eevaporate upon contact do’n sa mainit na bagay,” the doctor said.
“Kasi nakainom ng alak iyong tao, bumabagal iyong sensory part ng ating katawan. Iyon ang in charge sa pag-ramdam natin ng init o ng mga sakit,” said physicist Cristine Joie Cabrera.
Realizing how dangerous it was, Baroy promised he would not eat burning wood again as his mother also asked him to stop.
Garduno, meanwhile, warned the public not to try the hazardous activity. – Franchesca Viernes/RC, GMA News
