Carabao falls into 10-feet deep hole in Negros Occidental, gets rescued after 5 hours

Over 20 men from Kabankalan, Negros Occidental worked together to rescue a carabao which fell into a hole 10-feet deep.

According to Kuya Kim's report on "24 Oras," Tuesday, it took them over five hours to get the animal out.

A video of the rescue was uploaded on social media, showing how they struggled to lift the carabao from the hole.

"Pagdating ko ang kalabaw nandito sa ilalim, 'Yong mga rescuer, pilit itong nire-rescue sa kahit anong paraan. Nagdagdag ng butas sa gilid kasi masikip 'yong butas," said Ronald Enmacino, who uploaded the video online.

The owner of the carabao said he dug the hole to be made into a comfort room. Unfortunately, the animal fell into the hole.

"Umaatras siya hanggang sa lumapit sa butas, 'yong isang paa niya naka-ano na sa butas, doon na siya nawalan ng balance," he said.

The rescuers used ropes to pull the carabao up, but it took them many attempts before they finally succeeded.

The carabao sustained some wounds and remains unable to walk.

"When we are performing a rescue mission, we should approach the animal calmly. Kung siya ay napilayan or nasugatan, the more na nagpupumiglas, mas lalong lalala ang condition," said Dr. Aries Miclat, a veterinarian.

"Napakaimportante sa isang farmer na magaling siyang gumawa ng mga tinatawag nating mga rope works," he added.

Carabaos have long been the partners of farmers in plowing their fields. Just how strong is the animal?

Kuya Kim said carabaos have a maximum pulling capacity of 150 to 450 kilograms depending on the animal's weight. Its maximum continuous pulling power, meanwhile, is 100 to 120 kilograms.
