Howie Severino launches new book 'People I Knew' at MIBF 2026

Veteran journalist and documentarist Howie Severino has published a new book!

The award-winning Kapuso journalist and documentarist launched his new book, titled “People I Knew: And Some I Didn’t But Wrote About Them Anyway,” at the 2026 Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) on Friday, September 11.

At the event, Severino expressed both joy and relief as he celebrated the launch of his book alongside friends and other important people in his life.

“Aside from the joy—because, of course, I see so many friends and loved ones—it’s probably relief,” Severino said in Filipino.

“Relief, because the process is long. I think anyone who has written a book knows that feeling, it’s like giving birth," he added.

Present at his book launch are award-winning Kapuso broadcast journalists Kara David and Atom Araullo, Howie’s wife Ipat Luna, GMA Public Affairs Senior Vice President Nessa Valdellon, the late GMA journalist Cesar Apolinario’s daughter Athena, and former UST Publishing House Director Cristina Pantoja-Hidalgo.

Published by the UST Publishing House, "People I Knew" brings together stories, encounters, and portraits of people Severino has encountered throughout his career as a journalist.

Aside from being an award-winning broadcast journalist, Howie Severino is also an author who published the book “Patrimony: 6 case studies on local politics and the environment in the Philippines” in 1996.

He currently hosts “The Howie Severino Podcast.”
