In the Philippines, February isn't just the "month of hearts." It is also International Arts Month. Now on its 20th year, the celebration dubbed "Philippine International Arts Month" is well on its way with over 50 activities in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The impressive lineup is spread out over the seven arts â architecture, cinema, dance, literature, music, theater and visual arts.

Organik Muzik is one of seven flagship projects of the PIAF.
Several shows, exhibits and workshops are scheduled for the whole month in various venues all over the country. The seven flagship projects are:
Taboan (Literary); Sayaw Pinoy (Dance); Architext/Architypes (Architecture and Allied Arts); Organik Muzik (Music); Tanghal (Dramatic Arts); PIVAF (Visual Arts), and Cinema Rehiyon (Cinema). Also part of the festival is Monodrama Manila featuring performances from Birute Mar of the Lithuanian National Drama Theater, Mahmoud Abu Alaabas of UAE, and some of the best Filipino Monodramas. Organized by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the festival's tagline is "ani ng sining," which means harvest for the arts. While the event aims to promote Philippine art and culture, artists from Japan, Lithuania, Singapore, Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Brunei Darussalam, Taiwan, and the United Arab Emirates are also featured in the festival. This year's festival is endorsed by two celebrities, PIAF Arts Ambassador Boy Abunda and NCCA Youth Ambassador Dingdong Dantes. The grand celebration has three regional openings. The first is the PIAF Mindanao Opening Ceremony on Feb. 6, followed by PIAF Visayas on Feb. 13, and finally, PIAF Luzon in Baguio City on Feb. 20. The festival closes with the Ani ng Dangal Awards and Ani ng Sining Closing Ceremony on Feb. 28 at the Malacañang Palace. â Carmela G.
