Norwegian kids learn about Pinoy culture at Int'l Children's Festival

A colorful splash of Pinoy culture landed not far from the Arctic Circle on June 1 and 2 when the Philippine Embassy joined the International Children’s Festival in Hedmark, Norway for the first time.

Organized by Stoppested Verden at the Norsk Jernbanemuseum (Norwegian Railway Museum) park, a “barrio fiesta at the beach” was set up where visitors were able to try dried mangoes, puto cheese, pan de coco, and other Filipino foods while their kids learned to play sipa and sungka.

The children also learned the fun of the pasabit, jumping up to grab goodies hanging overhead, and to dance along to Philippine folk dances.

Established five years ago, Stoppested Verden (“stopping the world”) is Norway's largest international children’s festival. It features concerts, workshops, activities, performances and exhibitions that focus on learning about and  understanding multicultural diversity.
