Dulaang UP starts season with Shakespeare’s ‘Measure for Measure’


 
Dulaang UP launches its 39th season with English and FIlipino productions of "Measure for Measure," William Shakespeare's tragic/comic "problem play" about love and lust, judgment and justice.

Set in 17th century Vienna, the play is populated with soldiers, prostitutes, pimps, and a deputy leader who crosses the line from piety to corrupt sanctimony.

The play will be performed in the original English as well as in Filipino ("Hakbang sa Hakbang"). The translation is done by Ron Capinding, and the play is directed by Alexander Cortez.

"Measure for Measure"/"Hakbang sa Hakbang" runs from August 20 to September 7 at the Wilfrido Ma. Guerrero Theater, Palma Hall, University of the Philippines Diliman.

The performance dates are as follows:

First week (English)
August 20, 21 and 22 - 7:00 p.m.
August 23 and 24 - 10:00 a.m., 3:00 p.m.

Second week (Filipino)
August 27, 28, and 29 - 7:00 p.m.
August 30 and 31 - 10:00 a.m., 3:00 p.m.

Third week
September 3 (English) - 7:00 p.m.
September 4 (Filipino) - 7:00 p.m.
September 5 (English) - 7:00 p.m.
September 6 (English) - 10:00 a.m., 3:00 p.m.
September 7 (Filipino) - 10:00 a.m., 3:00 p.m.
